Embedded in this module are relevant skills in research, written work and critical thinking.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<th scope=\"row\">Description of Initiative<\/th>\n<td>This compulsory module for all BMus students links to MHC 2 and Research Project\/Dissertation in yr 3.Students cover 5 project areas (The First Composers\/Renaissance and Reformation\/ Music in 17<sup>th<\/sup> Century England\/The Italian Baroque Concerto\/ The Symphonies of Mozart and Haydn)taught by subject specialist lecturers\u00e2\u0080\u0093 each project consists of 1 keynote, 2 linked lectures and 2 tutor-led seminars in the pattern lecture-seminar-lecture-seminar. &nbsp; Students learn to understand the basis of the discipline of musicology and its concerns, gaining a sense of musico-historical perspective and an understanding of musico-stylistic change and development.Students are taught to construct \u00e2\u0080\u0098articulate, reasoned, well structured and convincing argument[s], in spoken and written form\u00e2\u0080\u00a6 drawing on a range of source materials, and supported by appropriate evidence\u00e2\u0080\u0099.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<th scope=\"row\">Assessment<\/th>\n<td>\n<ul>\n<li>Annotated bibliography \u00e2\u0080\u0093 500 words (formative)<\/li>\n<li>Essay \u00e2\u0080\u0093 1000 words (summative)<\/li>\n<li>Group seminar presentation \u00e2\u0080\u0093 10 minutes (summative)<\/li>\n<li>Essay \u00e2\u0080\u0093 2000 words (summative)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<th scope=\"row\">Ideas for adapting<\/th>\n<td>\n<ul>\n<li>Handouts (Lisa Colton) for in-seminar work<\/li>\n<li>Setting questions to a reading text \u00e2\u0080\u0093 developing paraphrasing and notetaking skills\/critical thinking\/referencing\/recognising and developing ideas or opinion.<\/li>\n<li>Quotation and paraphrasing<\/li>\n<li>Seminar leading and presentation skills<\/li>\n<li>Essay structuring (copies of anonymous ex-students\u00e2\u0080\u0099 work are used)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Tutor led but the AST delivers 10\/15 minute sessions in seminars.
