As such, the course offers significant underpinning for third-year dissertations and projects.&nbsp; Students will have the opportunity to develop their own historical interests, but attend a series of workshops designed to foster their research skills.&nbsp; Throughout the course, students gain oral and written feedback, enabling them to reflect upon and enhance their research and evaluation skills.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<th>Description of Initiative<\/th>\n<td>The module is taught over three days in the second term of Year 2. It is supported with a bank of materials through the VLE Unilearn. On the Day 1 students are given practical sessions on researching primary and secondary material and given taster sessions on different historical periods. They are given the task to choose and research a topic over the following 4 weeks; they submit a short blog entry on their idea and are allocated a supervisor who can guide them in their research. On Day 2 they do workshops on annotated bibliographies and writing a proposal and have a lecture and workshop on producing a historiography. Four weeks later they produce a proposal and annotated bibliography for their chosen topic and on Day 3 they do a short presentation and get immediate feedback. They are also offered a range of parallel sessions including: time management and organisation; an introduction to quantitative methods; ethics and research, a talk on postgraduate opportunities in history.
